I pulled against the cuffs; it hurt to move my arm even a little. Maybe the right hand one was a little wabbly. “It’s not loose enough. I can’t do it.”
The voice, it sounded like the voice of God, whispered back, “It’s going to hurt to pull your hand out. It’s going to hurt a lot.”
I could hear the groan of the water pipes. The angry man had finished his shower. “I hurt all over.”
“I know,” the voice said. “He’s been hurting me.” “I know.”
“I hurt too bad.”
“I know. You can do this. You can take the pain. All the pain. Pull now.”
“I can’t.” The sound of footsteps.
